UXCommunity statement of intent:
“The UXC Community program aims to support and contribute to the society and community in which we operate. It is based on an understanding of the relationships of the UXC people with their community, to each other, to our shareholders and to all those with whom we interact.
The UXC Community Program is a company-wide initiative that encourages and facilitates the great spirit and commitment that exists among our people for providing a sustainable future."
Our aim is to make a positive and sustainable impact on the communities in which we live and work. This approach requires deep relationships with our 6 charity partners, so that we can understand and support them in achieving their goals. This also means conducting our business in the most sustainable way possible, to ensure the welfare of our employees and the community is always highly valued in everything we do.
We are working to leverage our skills and position in the business community to impact on social change. No longer satisfied with one-off philanthropic gestures, our people are committed to being responsible leaders by investing increasing amounts of time, money, and skills in long-term community projects.
We do this through partnership with 6 specific organisations in Australia and 5 in New Zealand:
Australia
- Breast Cancer Network Australia – Working to ensure that women diagnosed with breast cancer, and their families, receive the very best information, treatment, care and support possible, no matter who they are or where they live.
- Weave– Offering a range of services focussing on youth, their families and the urban indigenous community, that include practical assistance with employment, accommodation, education programs, mental health and drug and alcohol counselling, community arts and performance.
- Foundation 49 – Promoting health in Australia’s working males through education, risk identification and workplace checkups.
- Lifeline - Caring for people in suicide prevention, crisis support and mental health.
- Conservation Volunteers Australia – Encouraging and connecting volunteers in projects that protect and enhance our environment.
- Redkite – Providing financial, emotional and educational support to children, young people and families affected by cancer.
New Zealand
- New Zealand Wildlife Health Centre – New Zealand’s only hospital for sick and injured native wildlife treats about 250 animals annually—for things they’ve eaten, broken or had done to them
- Ronald McDonald House – Ronald’s house is a home-away-from-home for families of desperately ill children who have to travel for specialist treatment.
- Christine Taylor Fund for Mental Health –As other sources of funding disappear, CTFMH helps volunteers and organisations to care for fellow Kiwis suffering from mental illness
- Men’s Health Trust New Zealand –About 25% of males smoke, over 50% are overweight, 27% drink too much, and 2 die from preventable illnesses every day…MHTNZ wants to change this
- Breast Cancer Research Trust –NZ has the western world’s third-highest death rate from breast cancer; the Research Trust is determined to find more effective and accurate detection methods
