UXC Wins another major Government Department contract Voice System upgrade

In excess of $7 million contract with Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade - 3 May 2007

Australian technology services company, UXC Limited (ASX:UXC) today announced it had secured a major contract with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The project, valued in excess of $7 million over four years, is to deploy a new voice platform in Australia and across all DFAT locations internationally.

This is the second major contract awarded to UXC in the last month by DFAT in addition to the recently announced DoHA contract announced last week.

This project, driven by DFAT’s requirements for a common global voice platform and improved communication capability will include a mix of IP telephony and traditional voice networking.

The solution was customised to meet DFAT’s unique requirements including:

  • Diversity of sites, locations and supporting infrastructure within Australia and overseas.
  • Organisational requirements for security, local survivability and specific common voice platform requirements.

Cris Nicolli, CEO, Business Solutions Group, UXC said “we have delivered DFAT a unique proposition that combines market leading voice technology, specialist experience and a team of highly skilled voice, project and integration resources.”

“The solution meets DFAT’s immediate needs, and delivers a robust solution that will support the Departments changing business requirements into the future,” said Nicolli.

“It is also important to recognise that this decision by DFAT to engage UXC is further proof of an Australian Company being able to offer leading solutions – with a global context, and be rewarded for doing so,” said Nicolli.

“The UXC value proposition of combining specialised voice skills and experience, local presence, and a strong partnership with Alcatel-Lucent were all key in making this a compelling case to position UXC to deliver this major voice infrastructure project for DFAT. We are privileged that DFAT has faith in UXC to deliver this project. We are excited to be participating in such an important DFAT imitative” he said.

IP Telephony Delivers Productivity Benefits
UXC will deliver an Alcatel-Lucent based IP telephony solution to every DFAT user across Australia. Internationally, DFAT will maintain its existing voice networking system; however staff will share the same user interface and functionality - helping streamline communication and improve productivity.

The functionality is designed to support DFAT’s unique business environment, mobile workforce and global locations. It includes:

  • Unified messaging that provides a single multi-media mailbox for all messages, including voice, email or fax accessible from anywhere in the world.
  • PC telephony that enable mobility, conference calls and access to a universal directory for all DFAT staff.
  • One number, regardless of location with call routing and screening functions.
  • Teamwork applications that enable web and audio conferencing, document sharing and collaboration.

The project will be delivered by UXC’s business units Integ, a leading Australian integrator of secure voice, data infrastructure and IP business applications and BCT Group that specialises in the provision of IT and data management services to government agencies including DFAT. Global ICT company, Alcatel-Lucent will provide technology and support solution services to assist in the delivery of this project.

“Security has always been considered a major issue when it comes to IP telephony. The fact that UXC can deliver a unique combination of the latest voice technology along with specialist security skills was a significant benefit to DFAT and went a long way to building confidence in this solution,” said Nicolli.

This engagement follows a string of major Government contract wins UXC has announced over the previous weeks and sees UXC continue to rapidly grow its business in the Federal Government market.
